Lapis Lazuli

The Stone of Heaven was discovered over 6000 years ago, the finest lapis lazuli is still found in the Hindu-Kush in Afghanistan.

Flecked with golden iron pyrites, powdered lapis lazuli was crushed to form the pigment ultramarine that is found in old Russian churches and palaces. Alexander the Great’s troops brought lapis back to Europe.
